This is the patent-free Light Edition of Linux Mint 3.0 "Cassandra". It is designed for users in countries where software patents are legally enforceable.
What's Different in the Light Edition
The Light Edition does not include the following patent-encumbered or proprietary components:
- Macromedia Flash (replaced with GPL Flash)
- Support for encrypted DVDs
- Windows Codecs
- Support for restricted formats (MP3, for instance)
- Unrar
- Sun Java
For users in countries that do not enforce software patents, the Full Edition is recommended as it provides a more complete out-of-the-box experience.
